The Statutory Ceremony

We are very pleased to offer a Statutory Legal Ceremony each weekday at 9.30am only, which will be held in our delightful Ercall Suite. The Statutory Ceremony (sometimes called a 2+2) is a very small and intimate ceremony with yourselves and two witnesses. Our Registrars will perform a legal ceremony, while making it very special and personal to you. These ceremonies still require you to complete a legal Notice of Marriage or Civil Partnership, and are proving very popular.

The ceremony script

The legal contract of civil marriage is entered into through the exchanging of vows, which are incorporated into the ceremony script delivered by the Registrar. Each Registrar will deliver a ceremonial script which they will make special in their own way.

You do not need to exchange vows for a civil partnership, which is legally formed through the signing of the schedule. However, you can include a script in your ceremony if you’d like.

Once you have booked your ceremony, the script that will be used can be found in your ceremony booking account along with a choices questionnaire for any personal options available for you to select.

Personal promises

For all ceremony types you can include personal promises within your ceremony if you wish. All personal promises will be subject to checks by the Registrars to ensure they are appropriate for the ceremony and that there is no religious content.

Ceremony 'added extras'

NEW for October 2023

We are delighted to offer you the chance to embellish our wonderful Wrekin Suite with a selection of décor to hire. These include items to mix and match, or why not purchase the whole package to make your day really special. Please note that the themes are only available at our Wrekin Suite and not at any of our licenced approved venues.

There are four themes to choose from:

Brights:

  • All the colours of the rainbow, bright and bold. Not for the fait-hearted nor the shy and retiring! Be daring and stand out from the crowd with this choice!

Classic:

  • Classic ivory and white, mixed with sage green and sparkling silver tones. A classic, decadent, ceremony choice, designed with everyone in mind.

Ethereal:

  • Whimsical magic of pastels, muted greens and sparkling silver. Search for the butterflies hidden amongst the wispy, trailing ivy. A delicate, quirky choice for your special day.

Boho:

  • Retro vibes of brown and orange, alongside delicate pampas grass, macramé, and nostalgia. A vintage, rustic choice to delight your inner vibe.

These packages include couples chair décor, welcome boards, floral table and aisle end displays, confetti and our new Infinity Ribbon Ceremony. They are available for 30 or 60 guests.

If you fancy something very simple, you can opt for couples chair décor only (themed or to suite your ceremony colour), adorning our wonderful new throne-style couple chairs.

Infinity Ribbon Ceremony

NEW for October 2023

Our Infinity Ribbon Ceremony is designed in mind to combine not only the couple but also their families in a very special ceremony. Hands are joined, promises are made and the couple experience a special binding moment together.

Once the ceremony is through, an infinity knot will be revealed, connecting the whole room in one special moment.

Our ribbons are for hire only, but if you wish to provide a special item (scarves, ribbons or belts, for example) that we could use for the ceremony, the infinity knot will be yours forever.

Ceremony readings

For enhanced ceremony types you can choose to include a number of readings to be incorporated within the ceremony script. Choose from the list below or for enhanced ceremonies at approved venues you can select reading(s) of your own choice if you prefer. All personal reading choices will be subject to checks by the Registrars to ensure they are appropriate for the ceremony and that there is no religious content.

Example readings could be extracts from the following popular works, poems or verses:

Captain Corelli's Mandolin by Louis de Bernieres

I Will Be Here by Steven Curtis Chapman

They're Not Perfect by Bob Marley

Apache Blessing by anonymous

Love Is Giving by anonymous

Music choices

If you are having your ceremony at an approved venue, please make arrangements direct with them in respect of the preparation and playing of any specific music choices. Most couples tend to select a particular song for the ceremony entrance and exit along with one or two songs to be played whilst signing the schedule.

For ceremonies in the Wrekin Suite we offer a set list of songs, which we will prepare and play for you. We will ask you to confirm the song title and artist as required. All personal music choices will be subject to checks by the Registrars to ensure they are appropriate for the ceremony and that there is no religious content.

Example song choices could be:

Entrance songs

A Thousand Years by Christina Perry

How Long Will I Love You by Ellie Goulding

At Last by Eta James

All of Me by John Legend

Canon in D by Pachelbel (classical instrumental)

Signing songs
